We Who Will Die by Stacia Stark
I was lucky enough to receive both the e-book ARC and the audiobook version
of this story, and honestly, that combination was pure magic. The audiobook
brought the characters to life in a way that had me completely captivated, I
couldn’t tear myself away. Every emotion, every moment of tension, and every
spark of chemistry felt amplified through the narration.
If you’re a fan of duet-style audiobooks, this
one is an absolute dream come true. The performance was seamless, and the
voices complemented each other perfectly, drawing you deeper into the world
with every chapter. Troy Duran’s performance in particular stood out, his range
and tone gave each male character their own distinct presence, making it easy
to tell who was speaking without even needing the dialogue tags. He nailed
every emotion, from quiet vulnerability to fierce protectiveness.
This is one of those audiobooks that doesn’t
just tell the story, it immerses you in
it. I’ll definitely be revisiting it again just to experience that magic one
more time.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book had everything I crave in a
fantasy, high-stakes action, brutal trials, a slow-burn love that hurts in all
the best ways, and a fierce FMC who would walk through fire for the people she
loves. The story had me hooked from the first chapter, dragging me into a world
that felt dark, dangerous, and impossible to leave.
Arvelle’s journey is full of impossible choices.
She’s blackmailed into a mission that could destroy her, kill the emperor, an
ancient vampire born from a god, and she agrees only to save her brother. What
follows is a deadly competition, betrayal, and a love story that simmers with
tension and pain. And can we talk about how every fantasy has to have a ruler who makes you want to throw something?
This one definitely delivered on that front.
I read this alongside the audiobook, and honestly, that experience
made it unforgettable. The narration pulled me deeper into the story,
especially the male narrator, his voice was pure perfection. The way he shifted
tone between characters, the emotion in every scene, made the world feel alive.
You could feel the danger, the heartbreak, the longing. It wasn’t just
listening; it was living the story.
If you’ve never tried immersive reading (book + audio together), I highly
recommend it for this one. It amplifies every heartbeat of the story until you
feel like you’re standing beside Arvelle in the arena, hearing the crowd roar
and feeling her fear and determination.
The romance was just the right amount of
slow-burn and emotionally charged, angry, raw, and real. The spice is light but
meaningful, and every scene fits perfectly with the tone of the book.
If you love romantasy with fierce trials,
impossible choices, and complex, brooding vampires, this one’s for you. It’s a
story that grips you by the heart and refuses to let go.
